The "MS Removal Tool" virus is a fake security program which has been designed to install itself onto your computer, and then show you a number of false antivirus scans in an attempt to scare you into buying the fake upgrade to this program. We've found that although MS Removal Tool might appear to be a legitimate piece of software, it's a complete scam, and needs to be removed completely in order to prevent any further infections from installing themselves onto your system.
This virus is thought to have been produced by a group of hackers in Eastern Europe, who are reportedly running a multi million dollar operation from this scam; and have also created the infamous "Security Tool 2011" infection. The bottom line is that this virus will try and show you fake scanning results, but it will not cause any lasting damage to your system if handled correctly.
Common traits of MS Removal Tool:
* Will install itself automatically onto your system (no warning is given)
* It will show a series of fake scanning results for your PC
* It will continually try and cause a large number of problems for your system
* It will block the "Task Manager" and "Internet" of your computer
How To Remove MS Removal Tool:
The best way to get rid of this virus is to restart your computer into "Safe Mode With Networking" (this keeps the Internet enabled), and then removing all the files & settings the virus will be using to run. An important thing to note about this infection is that it's been created as a piece of software that will run on your computer, meaning that in order to stop it - you just have to delete all the files and settings that it will be using. On top of that, it's also recommended that you're able to delete any of the infected settings that it has placed onto your system.
Here's a reliable way to get rid of this virus:
* Restart Your PC
* Press F8 continually before Windows loads (loads up "Boot Options Menu")
* From this menu, click onto "Safe Mode With Networking"
* When Windows loads, click onto the Internet
* Download XoftSpy (our recommended spyware remover)
* Let this tool run & clean out the errors on your PC
* Restart your system into "Normal Mode"
* (Optional - use a "registry cleaner" to finish the job)
This process is by far the most effective at getting rid of this infection. It works by first loading your computer into Safe Mode (which stops the virus from running), and then deleting the various files that it will use to run. This basically means that if you want to get rid of the program causing problems, it's vital that you're able to use a program that's able to fix the most problematic files, which we've found is one called "XoftSpy".
