If you have let your antivirus software expire or have not installed one before you could be in a for a big surprise if you try to install one. If you use the internet a lot there is a high chance your PC will become infected without your knowledge and when you do try to prevent an antivirus or anti-malware software it will be blocked. This is what will happen.
#1 Your computer will shut down each time you try to install the antivirus software.
#2 You will get a warning that the antivirus software is infected with a virus or malware, even though you have not installed it yet, and the installation will be terminated.
#3 you will be prevented from even installing the antivirus software and the installation will not start, no matter how many times you try to click on the setup button.
All of these are clear signs your computer is already infected with something nasty and you need or get rid of it.
How do you know if your computer is infected?
#1 Besides the above indications you may start getting warning messages about viruses constantly.
#2 You may see new icons on your windows task bar for antivirus software or windows optimization software you did not install.
#3 you may have tool bars on your web browser you did not install.
How can you install your antivirus software if it is blocked or it will not run?
Follow these steps.
#1 Start task manager and then open the processes tab. You are looking for any processes with random names. If you see something like bhhflkdss.exe it is quite clear that this is randomly generated. Once you see something like this stop it by clicking on the process and then click on end process.
#2 Once you have stopped it use the windows search button to search for files and folders with the same name and delete them.
#3 Once you have done this restart your PC and try to install your antivirus software again.
#4 If you still cannot install your antivirus software this means malicious software is still embedded on your computer. As this point there are three options.
A) Reinstall windows. This is a last resort and you want to avoid this.
B) Call a technician to fix it. They will probably reinstall windows and charge you to do this as well.
C) Download software that will remove any running malware on your computer.
Step c is the easiest and the cheapest option. This is very fast and very effective. To do this just follow the rest of the steps.
#5 Start your PC in safe mode. This is the easiest way to stop most running malware if you do not know the name of it. Starting in safe mode only loads vital processes. To do this turn on your PC, press the f8 button several times before windows starts, and then highlight safe mode with networking and hit the return key on your keyboard.
#6 Once in safe mode open your web browser and download a system and registry scanner.
Run a full system and registry scan.
Once you have run a full scan follow the instructions to automatically get rid of any malware and speed up your PC again and install your antivirus software. If you find installation of your antivirus is blocked or you have already installed it and it just will not run follow these steps to get it running and protect your PC right away.
