In this extremely mobile world, there is a growing need for the ability to print from anywhere. Offices have moved from corporate buildings to coffee shops, homes, and vehicles. The need for a good quality portable printers has gone from being a convenience to a necessity for work to continue to be mobile. Choosing the right one depends on personal preference, needed options, and cost.
As computers became smaller and laptops entered the picture, so has everything else. It is possible to take nearly everything necessary to run an office on the road, assuming there is space in the mode of transportation. The printer is no exception. They have grown smaller, while still keeping many of the options and features of the larger ones back in the office.
The advantages of the smaller devices are that employees are able to work from anywhere. Service workers are able to generate an invoice from their work van. Contractors can print part of the blue prints for a construction job, and business men and women are able to create a contract to be signed at the meeting, rather than faxing one later.
There are many options available including scanning and fax capabilities. Color and black are available for producing photographs or simple documents. Some are powered through the USB port while others are battery powered. Choosing the options is heavily dependent on the tasks that will need to be performed.
While the idea of portable indicates a much smaller version, the options included will also determine the size. This device will probably be the bulkiest piece of equipment being carried around, but it does not have to be huge and unwieldy. The options are available in very small, to reasonably sized equipment. This feature is also determined by personal preference and the task at hand.
There are both laser and inkjet versions available. Most understand the difference between the two. The laser creates much crisper versions of documents, but for photograph generation, the inkjet versions are often higher quality. The color laser printers are much more expensive and not available in the compact version. If the job includes providing photos to clients, the inkjet may be the best version to choose.
The price ranges from less than one hundred dollars to over one thousands. The cost is directly related to options, brand, and build. There are very sturdy printers with very few options that are higher priced because they are designed to withstand outdoor placement at a construction site. Though it may not have many features, it is nearly indestructible, driving up the price. For a high quality, feature rich version expect the price to be around two to four hundred dollars.
The work world has moved from the office to the field. The workers have driven a demand for tools that can allow them the freedom to move. Corporate jetsetters are flying around the world spitting out contracts and bringing in money. First came the laptops. As the business community fully embraced the joy of getting out of the office to conduct business, portable printers came along and offered even more freedom of movement.
